My belief in humanities always drives my personal style in counselling. I believe the maladjustment in different life situation is the major source that provokes our mental health issues such as depression and anxiety. Fortunately, the human being is always having their own ways to maintain an equilibrium. However, while their ways can no longer work in a particular situation, the issues come. The artistic expression such as drawings, music, dance, or even poems could give us a secure space to reflect and learn about our experiences. With good lessons of our past, we will have wiser choices for our future to go back to the equilibrium.

Art Therapy is a blend of “art” and “psychology”, and can be used to help all kinds of people. Scientifically proven, art therapy has much success with children, especially for children who are non-verbal or less verbal, as art provides them a platform for self expression. However, art therapy is not only for children, but applicable to adults as well. It uses a non-intrusive approach and brings unconscious content within the artwork to the client’s awareness. It is often viewed as a “fun” and “approachable” way to address difficult underlying emotional issues and for personal development. You need not have very complex art materials to have an art therapy session. Use art as a way to connect better with the self!

I have a passion for helping people. I am understanding, patient, empathetic, friendly and I have good listening skills. After completing my Primary and Secondary Education from CHIJ Katong Primary and CHIJ Katong Convent respectively, I moved on to University at Buffalo, The State University of New York and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) in 2012. I began my Masters in Guidance and Counselling from James Cook University, Singapore in 2014 and I graduated in October 2016. I wanted to specialise with children and adolescents which is why I applied to Lindamood-Bell Learning Process in order to gain experience with working that age group. To further my specialisation, I just completed a MSc at King's College London in December 2019. I am a Registered Counsellor at the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and a Graduate Member of British Psychological Society (BPS).
