What is the length of therapy?

The length of therapy varies according to the type of issues, the therapy approach, and individual’s psychological condition. There is no fixed length of therapy. Short-term therapy usually takes less than 20 sessions, is for targeted issues such as overcoming phobias, working on situational problems etc. Long term therapy that works on lifelong struggle such as addiction, chronic depression, cognitive dissonance etc can take 40 sessions and above. Though this may sounds a lot, think that each session is a progression in your life towards the desirable direction. You will likely feel emotionally less burdened and feel more empowered with each passing session. The positive effect of therapy can be felt at the early stage of therapy between 1-5 sessions.
