How can we help you
After booking your first session, you can get in touch with your therapist through the secure messaging function on our web platform. Your therapist may or may not reply you in time before start of session. If you have any concern over whether your therapist has received your message, please raise it up during your first session with him/her.
If you wish to message a therapist before booking a session, you will have to subscribe weekly messaging service with that specific therapist. You can cancel the subscription anytime. As a new user, you get to message our featured therapists without any fee for ONE week upon account sign-up.
We will recommend that you keep the same therapist unless you no longer finds therapy with him/her helpful for you.
If you have already booked an appointment with a therapist but wish to change therapist, you have to do so at least 48 hours prior to your appointment by writing to us at contact@thetherapy.co. You can go ahead to book your next appointment with another therapist on the website. We will refund your original appointment session fee less Stripe transaction fee (3.4%+$0.50). Do note that it takes 5 to 10 business working days for the amount to appear on your credit card statement.
We regret there will be no refund if request on change of therapist is made within 48 hours prior to the appointment.
There is no guarantee of having therapist that is right for you in spite of all available information. Compatibility of therapist to client can be idiosyncratic. Just as one man’s meat is another man’s poison. You will make better judgement on your compatibility after your first session. The best you can do in finding a suitable therapist is to read up their profile and user reviews found on their profile, research their approach, and be prepared to express all your concerns about therapy during first session.
We understand finding a suitable therapist is a journey in itself. If you don’t feel that the therapist is a right fit for you after your first session, book your next session with another therapist within 7 calendar days after your first session to get 50% refund (less Stripe transaction fee of the session)!
This is our standard Therapy Informed Consent. Please feel free to seek clarification with your therapist on any item you are unclear of.
General Information
The therapeutic relationship is unique in that it is a highly personal and at the same time, a contractual agreement. Given this, it is important for us to reach a clear understanding about how our relationship will work, and what each of us can expect. This consent will provide a clear framework for our work together. Feel free to discuss any of this with me.
The Therapeutic Process
You have taken a very positive step by deciding to seek therapy. The outcome of your treatment depends largely on your willingness to engage in this process, which may, at times, result in considerable discomfort. Remembering unpleasant events and becoming aware of feelings attached to those events can bring on strong feelings of anger, depression, anxiety, etc. There are no miracle cures. I cannot promise that your behavior or circumstance will change. I can promise to support you and do my very best to understand you and repeating patterns, as well as to help you clarify what it is that you want for yourself.
Confidentiality
The session content and all relevant materials to the client’s treatment will be held confidential unless the client requests in writing to have all or portions of such content released to a specifically named person/persons. Please note that practitioners from our organization who are seeing you will have access to information about you including your progress notes. If you wish to have a separate file to each practitioner, you will have to create a separate account to book with each practitioner. Limitations of such client held privilege of confidentiality exist and are itemized below:
1. If a client threatens or attempts to commit suicide or otherwise conducts him/her self in a manner in which there is a substantial risk of incurring serious bodily harm.
2. If a client threatens grave bodily harm or death to another person.
3. If the therapist has a reasonable suspicion that a client or other named victim is the perpetrator, observer of, or actual victim of physical, emotional or sexual abuse of children under the age of 18 years.
4. Suspicions as stated above in the case of an elderly person who may be subjected to these abuses.
5. Suspected neglect of the parties named in items #3 and # 4.
6. If a court of law issues a legitimate subpoena for information stated on the subpoena.
7. If a client is in therapy or being treated by order of a court of law, or if information is obtained for the purpose of rendering an expert’s report to an attorney.
8. Occasionally I may need to consult with other professionals in their areas of expertise in order to provide the best treatment for you. Information about you may be shared in this context without using your name.
9. If we see each other accidentally outside of the therapy office, I will not acknowledge you first. Your right to privacy and confidentiality is of the utmost importance to me, and I do not wish to jeopardize your privacy. However, if you acknowledge me first, I will be more than happy to speak briefly with you, but feel it appropriate not to engage in any lengthy discussions in public or outside of the therapy office.
For any inappropriate behavior from therapist, you can email to our founder Ms Sarah Poh at sarah.poh@thetherapy.co. Ms Sarah Poh will handle your complaint sensitively. You can also write in to the professional association to which the therapist is a member of.
