Brian is a Licensed Professional Counselor with education, training and clinical experience in the fields of Mental Health, Addiction, Trauma, Grief, Loss and Bereavement and Spiritual Care. He provides counseling, assessment and intervention services that help clients meet their goals for a life in recovery. Brian has a passion for providing quality care, support and services to his clients through a person-centered approach that incorporates interventions from various theories and methodologies. He believes in helping clients process through past traumatic experiences that have contributed to current struggles with substance abuse and mental health symptoms. Brian also incorporates client’s spiritual beliefs into the treatment protocol in order to holistically address their needs. His extensive experience and passion for this field has helped guide individuals through the process of recovery in order to experience freedom from their past and a hope for their future.

My name is Brian Shaffer and I am an ordained Anglican Deacon with over 20 years experience in chaplaincy, pastoral care, and grief, loss and bereavement. I have worked in long-term care nursing facilities, hospital and hospice settings and I specialize in Pastoral Bereavement Counseling. My professional interests are in pastoral care, hospice and palliative care, as well as grief, loss and bereavement work with children, teens and adults. I am a credentialed chaplain, grief counselor and thanatologist who has presented both nationally and internationally in these fields.  Additionally, I have experience working with kids and teens in church, hospital and hospice settings and in a children’s bereavement camp and in the care of the dying and their loved ones, including children and grandchildren, in hospices, hospitals and their homes. My passion has always been to walk along side people in their deep, darkest times to bring a compassionate, comforting and supportive presence. To ensure my own well being, I spend a great deal of time in prayer and meditation, playing golf, spending times with my dogs as well as enjoy reading, being in nature, and traveling.
