I am a mental health counsellor with a passion for student wellness. I have worked with a diverse mix of student-clients ranging from elementary-aged to mature, and across different levels of education. I believe in the old adage, "It takes a village to raise a child". Communities, institutions and individuals who take the time and effort to invest in students' holistic well-being—physical, emotional, spiritual, and social—are more likely to help students reach their personal and academic potential. Ultimately, my goal as a counsellor is to work with my clients to identify goals and potential solutions to problems which cause emotional distress; seek to improve communication and coping skills; strengthen self-esteem; and promote behaviour change and optimal mental health.
My interest in counselling began a decade ago as an in-house counsellor for students in the Gifted Education Programme. The work I did in Affective Education and counselling the GEP students led me to find avenues within my teaching career to focus on the social-emotional aspect of a student's development. While I was working in an international school in Hong Kong, I was able to continue strengthening the social-emotional learning of students by setting up a SEL club. After earning my Masters of Counselling, I worked as a counselling intern for a year in various non-profit organisations. Since my graduation, I have worked as an SEL coordinator for an elementary school, a private counsellor as well as a counsellor for SCAD. I especially enjoy working with young people (15 to 25) and adults, incorporating techniques in CBT and Solution-focused Therapy to support my clients' growth and healing journey.
